Darwin, one of the stars of X-Men: First Class, born Armando Munoz, started mutating as early as 4 years old when he had become bald with longer arms and larger eyes. His father left at the time and since then, his mother began to hate him and blame him for his father’s disappearance.
After that, Darwin began manifesting his powers in many ways: raising his IQ to impress his mom (and test better), gaining the ability to breathe underwater when swirlied by bullies (having his head put in the toilet), and making his fists rock hard to fight off bullies.
Eventually, after experimentation by scientists, and an attempted suicide (he jumped off a building and bounced instead of dying), it became obvious that Darwin’s power was to reactively adapt in order to survive.
In his adventures he has adapted to the vacuum of space, to fire, to becoming an energy being (his powers even created a new body for him after the fact), to hunger and dehydration, to having his head blown off, and even entering the M’Kraan Crystal (which if you don’t know, is a very powerful item, the nexus of all realities, that is supposed to be nigh impossible to escape from) to save Professor X.
His powers have been useful at random times, such as when identifying disguised Skrulls (shapeshifters), randomly learning an alien language on the spot, and his most impressive feat where he survived Hela’s death touch (Hela being a Deity on the level of Mephisto and close to Odin AKA very powerful). But not only did he survive her touch, his ability to adapt kicked in and he ended up absorbing her powers for himself, leaving her weak and him a Death god.
Since that moment, even after relinquishing Hela’s powers, Darwin seems to have gained the ability to proactively adapt instead of reactively and has been shown depowering shapeshifters and the like. He’s also stated that he could now see hundreds of ways to kill anyone at any given moment due to his experience as a Death God.
Darwin’s powers appear to truly have no limit and it seems like he can adapt to everything.
